During my years as a photography student at the
Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, my favorite photo teacher was
Stephen Manville. If you showed him a beautifully lit photograph he would exclaim,
"That's de-light-ful!" I'm sure the above photo of beautiful Kelly taken at the Swan Club would have earned a robust, "That's de-light-ful!" Very often the motivation for choosing a particular spot to make a photograph is based on the lighting possibilities at the location. In this case, I knew the side/backlight would work wonders on Kelly's vail, hair, and provide beautiful rim lighting on the left side of her body. Selecting a focal length, and lens aperture to soften the background, just so, added the finishing touch.
